Brief Profile:   Aparna Basu was Emeritus Scientist at the National Institute of Science Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS-CSIR) in New Delhi till 2014, where she did a project on scientometric analysis of papers published by the Indian diaspora. She has studied Physics in Delhi University and Cornell University. She obtained a PhD and did post-doctoral work in Plasma Physics at the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad. She has worked at the Space Application Centre (Indian Space Research Organization, ISRO) in Ahmedabad and in NISTADS as scientist. She has also worked for IBM, Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA), Institute for Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB). Her research interests are in mathematical modeling of social systems, social network analysis, scientometrics and the diaspora. Her publications include books, edited volumes, book chapters, journal and conference papers. She has reviewed papers for several journals and major conferences in Scientometrics. She is a founder member of the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI) and was elected as Member of the Board for two successive terms. Currently, she is working in collaboration with Prof. Vivek Singh, Computer Science department, Banaras Hindu University
