Migrants and Immigrants during Covid 19: Country Specific Cases, 10th May 2020

Migrants and Immigrants have been disproportionately affected by the Covid 19 Pandemic. The vulnerability of these groups varies from countries to countries and situation to situation. In the absence of powerful constituency, they have relatively less influence in mobilise the resource. As the Pandemic will continue and there is no clear sign of the vaccine, the situation will become more uncertain. In this background, this panel drawn from various sectors, disciplines and countries will thorugh light on the challenges and possible road map to face the pandemic.

Prof. Binod Khadria was former professor of economics and education, and Chairperson of the Zakir Husain Centre for Educational Studies within the School of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University, He is the Co-Editor of latest World Migration Report 2020 and Sage Handbook of International Migration published recently.

Dr. Alwyn Didar Singh is a former Indian civil servant and former Secretary General of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He graduated from the University of Birmingham with a master's degree in development administration in 1996. Singh was Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs from 2009 to 2011. He was Finance Member for the National Highways Authority of India from 2007 to 2009.

Professor Biman Chand Prasad is a Fiji politician of Fiji Indian descent. He is leader of the National Federation Party, Shadow Minister for Finance, Planning and National Statistics, and Chairman of the Fijian Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Fijian Studies and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pacific Studies

Professor Stephanie (Stephi) Hemelryk Donald is Distinguished Professor of Film in the College of Arts. She leads research and impact activities, and is Lead of the international Justice, Arts, and Migration Network. She has served as Chair of the Australian Research Council HCA (Humanities and Creative Arts) panel, and she also served on the 2012 HCA ERA (Excellence in Research) panel in Australia.

Professor Luciana L. Contarino Sparta is a historian and lawyer with a PhD in Social Sciences. She works as a professor and researcher at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, where she teaches history of colonization and decolonization and contemporary history of independent countries in Africa and Asia.

Dr Kumar Mahabir is former Assistant Professor in the Centre for Education Programmes at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). He obtained his Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of Florida. Mahabir is the author of twelve (12) books including two national bestsellers Caribbean East Indian Recipes and Medicinal and Edible Plants used by East Indians of Trinidad and Tobago.
