Special Edition (2014) on Migration of the Highly skilled: Current and emerging trends
This special edition seeks to source papers (empirical and theoretical) across the globe on current and emerging trends which are evident in a migration of the highly skilled in the last 5 years (2009-2014). The empirical papers can draw from different structural levels of analysis: - governmental, institutional, specific groups or individuals in answering some of the critical questions in global migration discourses at present. The papers will be based on studies that are from an array of methodological approaches: qualitative/quantitative/ mixed method. The questions that are expected to be covered in the edition include but are not limited to:
What are the source and destination countries in current and/ emerging trends? This will/can include discussion on the push and pull factors that are initiating the migration as well as the factors that can be responsible for sustaining the trend.
Who is moving? (biographical, environmental and professional profiles)
What is the nature of the Mobility &/ Migration trajectories: What is the status of the migration: permanent/ temporary/ undecided/serial migration.
Why is there mobility to this location- (determinants for the migration of the highly skilled to this geographic location),
What are the nature of migrants’ experiences in these destinations? (economic eg. Remittances OR social eg. xenophobia, exclusion and acculturation, formation of ethnic enclaves OR professional such as comparability of qualifications, qualification recognition)
