Global Diaspora Forum to focus on “Where Ideas Meet Action”

The countdown has begun for the conference titled “Where Ideas Meet Action” to be held during 13-14 May 2013 at Washington DC. Global Diaspora Forum which is a collaborative initiative by organisations such as U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) to promotes and supports diaspora centered initiatives in entrepreneurship, volunteerism, philanthropy, diplomacy, and social innovation in countries and regions of diaspora origin.
The International diaspora Engagement Alliance (IdEA) is the strategic partner of the Global Diaspora Forum. IdEA supports Diasporas network with private sector, non-profit and government partners at IdEA meetings and conferences. Through these events, participants develop concepts as well as operational plans for projects that bring about stronger diaspora engagement with countries of origin. IdEA also mobilises resources through connecting diaspora members to business competitions such as the African Diaspora Marketplace and the Caribbean Idea Marketplace, implemented by IdEA partners. It is developing a portal to encourage donations to diaspora organizations. Besides it also involve in capacity development and project implementation.
The forthcoming conference will showcase inspiring stories from prominent diaspora figures in American popular culture. It will also showcase exemplary initiatives in international development and diplomacy undertaken by diasporans of all generations and demonstrate diverse methods of organization and cultural bridge-building that encourage diaspora youth to connect with their countries of heritage. These innovative platforms are the need is a very creative platform for diasporians to engage in the development process.
On May 13, 2013, the Global Diaspora Forum in DC officially opens at USAID with a breakfast reception, registration, and welcoming remarks. The rest of the day will feature an amazing roster of panel and roundtable discussions, receptions, and networking events throughout DC, hosted by leading organizations. The second-day i.e on 14 May 2013 of the Global Diaspora Forum continues at the U.S. State Department with high-level guests. Plenary panels will feature prominent American diaspora figures and breakout sessions that address many of the pressing questions of diaspora engagement today.
