OIFC to facilitate interaction of Overseas Indian community with Indian policy makers and businesses

New DelhiThe Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre, a public private partnership between the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and Confederation of Indian Industry formed to facilitate the economic engagement of the Indian Diaspora with India is organizing the 7th annual OIFC Market Place in Kochi from Jan 7 – 9, 2013 during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD).

Discussing the preparation for the upcoming Market Place, Shri Rajiv Mehrishi, Secretary, Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and Chairman, OIFC said, “The OIFC Market Place being organized for the 7th consecutive year is set to create exclusive opportunities for the Overseas Indian community with who wish to develop their economic linkages with India. In the past, these meetings have proved to be extremely beneficial for the delegates comprising of NRIs (Non Resident Indian) and PIO (Person of Indian Origin) and have helped match buyers and suppliers. We are confident that the Market Place this year, would chart new grounds for OIFC’s Partners as well as between participating delegates.”

 

These meetings are being arranged through a pre-event online scheduling facilitated by OIFC. The previous year saw an impressive footfall of more than 1200 visitors and over 500 business interactions and meetings between the PBD delegates; PBD delegates and the OIFC Partners; and, OIFC Partners.

“The world over, the Indian overseas community has been making their presence felt in business and politics alike. OIFC has been continuously working towards bridging the gap between the desires of the community to link back with their roots and the processes that one requires to undertake to make these linkages happen. The Market Place acts as a swift and special forum for the community and the Partners to participate in,” said Ms. Sujata Sudarshan, CEO, OIFC.

 

This year OIFC Market Place will see participants from:

·         Representative department from Governments of Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Orissa and Rajasthan.

·         Knowledge Partners including Axis bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd and Union Bank of India

During the previous OIFC Market Place held same time in 2012 in Jaipur, this forum facilitated 500 B2B meetings between its participants and PBD delegates.

OIFC’s mandate also includes management of Diaspora Knowledge Network. It will showcase Global Indian Network of Knowledge (Global INK), an online platform for knowledge exchange focusing on the sectors of healthcare, environment, science & technology at the Market Place.
